What Does Owning This Aircraft Cost Per Year?

Put in your own numbers and see the annual cost of owning and operating an aircraft, split into what you pay whether you fly or not and what you pay because you flew — and what that works out to per flight hour.

Read this first. Every figure on this page starts as an indicative planning figure — the midpoint of a broad range for the aircraft category you pick. It is a starting point for a conversation, not a measurement of your aircraft. Edit all of it.

Real costs vary a great deal by aircraft type and age, country of registration, the crew market you hire in, where you hangar, how hard you use the aircraft and what your maintenance history looks like. Two aircraft of the same category can differ by a wide margin on the same number of hours.

Nothing here is a quote, an offer, or a PassionJet price. We do not publish a price on this page, and no figure below should be read as one. All amounts are in US dollars.

Fixed Costs, Paid Whether You Fly or Not
Variable Costs, Paid Because You Flew
Finance, If the Aircraft Is Not Owned Outright

A loan or lease payment is usually the largest single line, and it is cash you have to find every month — so it is counted here, and shown apart from the cost of operating the aircraft. Part of a loan payment repays principal and buys you equity, so it is not all cost in an accounting sense; this page does not model depreciation, resale or tax.

Owned outright adds nothing below.
Depreciation, Optional

Depreciation is what the aircraft loses in value over a year. It is a real cost of ownership and the one nobody writes a cheque for, so it is kept apart from both the operating bill and the finance payment. Rates vary with age, hours, engine programme status and the market; a young aircraft in a strong market can hold value, and an old one in a weak market can fall faster than any rule of thumb. This page does not model resale, tax relief or capital allowances.

Leave at zero to leave depreciation out.
Often quoted between 4 and 10 per cent a year. Indicative, editable.
Charter Revenue Offset, Optional
Leave at zero if you do not charter the aircraft out.

This is revenue reaching you after the operator's share, not the price a charter client pays. It is shown as an offset against cost. It is not profit, and this page does not model tax, depreciation or the cost of the capital tied up in the aircraft.

Where It Goes

Cost per Flight Hour as the Hours Rise

The fixed half of the bill does not care how much you fly, so it is spread over however many hours you do fly. This is the same estimate as above, re-divided — the one figure most owners are actually looking for.

What This Page Is, And What It Is Not

It is an arithmetic sheet with editable starting figures, so you can see the shape of the cost and which lines move it most. The maths is plain: fixed costs plus variable costs, divided by hours.

It is not a quote, a proposal, a valuation, or advice on tax or financing. The starting figures are category-wide planning ranges, not figures for any specific aircraft model, and we will not pretend to know what your airframe costs before we have looked at it.

If you want a figure built from your actual aircraft, registration, base and flying, that is a conversation rather than a calculator. Ask us below.

Send us your aircraft and your expected flying and we will come back with a cost estimate built from your type, your base and your country of registration rather than from a category midpoint.

Indicative only and not an offer. The figures you entered above are sent with your enquiry so we have your starting assumptions. Flights operated by appropriately certificated air carriers.
